Kia EV9: First Look at Kia’s All-Electric SUV

A new nameplate is joining the Kia lineup. Earlier this month, Kia revealed full images of the upcoming 2024 Kia EV9, an all-electric SUV that appears the same size as the gas-only Telluride.
While it’s still too early for all the details, Kia has shared key features and stunning imagery of what to expect from this new vehicle.
At the time of writing, the 2024 Kia EV9 is not yet on sale. It will make its digital global premiere in late March with all vehicle information, including the on-sale date, being released during this event.
What’s New?
The Kia EV9 is an all-new nameplate for the brand and comes as part of Kia’s commitment to providing 11 new electric vehicles by the end of 2026. Official details on pricing have not been announced yet, but sources expect it to start around $55,000. At this time, official ratings on MPG, horsepower, and other performance numbers have not been released.

Exterior Design: Confidence-Inspiring Power
Kia’s acclaimed ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy has garnered the attention of drivers worldwide. Earlier this year, Kia won four GOOD DESIGN awards for their innovative and bold styling – one of those being an award for their work on the Kia EV9 concept. Continuing this momentum, Kia brought the EV9 to life with as much elegance and sophistication as showcased in the initial concept.
‘Opposites United’ highlights the harmony and contrast found in nature and humanity. According to the company, “‘Opposites United’ is based on five key design principles: ‘Bold for Nature’, ‘Joy for Reason’, ‘Power to Progress’, ‘Technology for Life’, and ‘Tension for Serenity.’”
In particular, the ‘Bold for Nature’ pillar inspired the exterior design of the EV9. At first glance, onlookers are captivated by the serene calmness, yet undoubted ruggedness of the SUV. The EV9 exterior is accentuated by the brand’s signature ‘Digital Tiger Face,’ striking vertical headlamps and futuristic-looking grille.
Like the Kia EV6, the EV9 features innovative Star Map LED daytime running lights (DRL), which create a new illumination experience for drivers.
Similarly, the Kia EV9 is built upon the company’s dedicated battery electric vehicle platform, Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). This flat-floor architecture allows for ample space, which Kia cleverly utilized for reversible second and third-row seating as well as enhanced driver and passenger comfort, which we’ll cover more next.
The EV9 is more than a striking vehicle, but represents the brand’s journey to becoming a sustainable mobility solutions provider, says Kia. Specs regarding tires, exterior colors, etc. have not been revealed yet.

Interior Design: Lounge-Style Comfort
Kia looks beyond the traditional standards of mobility and aims to build a future with new and enhanced possibilities. When designing the Kia EV9, engineers reimagined what a family SUV can offer.
Thanks to the vehicle’s flat-floor architecture, the EV9 offers generous space, which Kia capitalizes on by offering a lounge-like set up. Offered in six and seven-seat formats, the EV9 delivers on space, comfort, and experience for all occupants.
Occupants in the first and second-row seats can simultaneously recline their seats to relax and rest when the EV9 is charging. Similarly, the seats in the second row can easily swivel 180 degrees so passengers can interact with those in the third row.
Upon entry, drivers are greeted with two 12.3-inch touch screens integrated with one 5-inch segment display. The result: an exceptionally user-friendly interface that offers effortless control of the vehicle’s functions.

Other key interior features include added cup holders and charging points for mobile devices.
