Kia Drive Wise: Advanced Driving Assist and Safety Features

Today’s drivers are met with unique challenges. With Kia Drive Wise, Kia aims to eliminate many of the inherent dangers and stressors drivers face on today’s roads. 

What is Kia Drive Wise? 

Kia Drive Wise is a suite of technologies designed to keep you and your passengers safe. Using high-resolution cameras and radar technology, the system detects common hazards and can take corrective action when drivers need it most. Currently, the Drive Wise system includes 11 safety features and it is continuously being improved upon each year. 

What models include Kia Drive Wise? 

Each Kia model varies, but newer model years are equipped with the latest Drive Wise technology. For instance, the all-new 2022 Kia Telluride is stacked with all of the available features including Collision-Avoidance Assist and an Anti-Lock Brake system.

Kia Safety Features

Safety is a top priority at Kia. From vehicle body structure to stability management, every aspect of your Kia is thoroughly designed with you and your passengers in mind. In the Drive Wise system, the following features are available:  

Blind-Spot Collision Warning and Collision-Avoidance Assist 

Blind spots are incredibly dangerous, especially for larger vehicles where it’s harder to see. The NHTS estimates 840,000 accidents happen every year due to blind spots. With this feature, drivers will get an audio and visual warning when your vehicle detects a hazard. Additionally, if you attempt a lane change while a vehicle is detected, your Kia will gently steer the vehicle to avoid a collision.

Driver Attention Alert

While airbags and seat belts are crucial, road safety starts from the driver’s seat. Safe driving practices are essential when navigating the roads, and factors like fatigue and inattentiveness can be fatal. Systems that monitor your driving, like Driver Attention Alert, monitor a range of driving factors to alert you when inattentive driving is detected. In some cases, it can also recommend taking a break. 

Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist

One way that Kia Drive Wise works toward preventing accidents is through its Forward-Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCAA). Things can happen unexpectedly, which is why FCAA provides audio and video alerts if it detects a hazard. If the driver doesn’t react, it can also gently apply the brakes to prevent an accident or reduce damage caused by collisions. 

Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist

An extra set of eyes is always helpful, especially when backing up from a parking space. Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance is designed to warn the driver if a hazard is detected, and in certain conditions, apply gentle braking to prevent a crash. 

Smart Cruise Control, Lane Keeping, and Haptic Steering Wheel

On long stretches of road, your Kia is your roadside companion. Smart Cruise Control uses a radar and camera mounted on the windshield to monitor and adjust your vehicle’s speed. Additionally, it keeps your car at a preset distance from the vehicle ahead. Lane keep tech like Lane Departure Warning also monitor your position, providing haptic steering feedback to assist with keeping you centered in your lane. 

High Beam Assist

Despite 60 percent less traffic at night, more than 40 percent of road fatalities happen at night. Poor visibility can pose a huge threat on the road. With High Beam Assist, drivers can see more clearly at night, without blinding other drivers. The HBA system can detect headlights and taillights of other vehicles, then automatically toggle between high and low beams.
